Dayton Authors Connect Book Lovers at City-Wide Expo

Dayton, Ohio – On Saturday, May 1, 2010, authors from across the nation will gather for the first Dayton Book Expo. In addition to book signings, the one-day expo will feature panel discussions for aspiring authors and activities for children in the Kidz Zone. The event will be held from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM in the Great Hall at Sinclair Community College’s Ponitz Conference Center – Building 12, 444 West Third Street, Dayton, Ohio 45402. The family-friendly event is free and open to the public.
Valerie J. Lewis Coleman, expo co-founder says, “We collaborated on this endeavor to make Dayton a place where book lovers connect. The expo is an opportunity to promote and encourage literacy in our community. Traditional and self-published authors along with book club members will provide lively and detailed discussions about the literary business. The Kidz Zone will have story tellers, reading games and crafts.” Coleman, who is an award-winning author and publisher, hosts annual writing workshops in the city.
“Marketing is the most difficult aspect of publishing,” says Charlotte Brown, author and expo co-founder. “As a bookseller, I recognize authors’ accomplishments and will be reporting sales to New York Times and Essence Bestsellers Lists.” The top seller in each genre will be awarded as a Dayton Book Expo Bestseller and book lovers will decide the winner of the Reader’s Choice Book Cover Award.
Expo co-founder and award-winning author, LaTonya Branham, is the sponsor coordinator for the Dayton Book Expo. She says, “We have received a tremendous response from businesses wanting to invest in our community.” The current list of sponsors for the Dayton Book Expo include Sinclair Community College, Indiana Wesleyan University Dayton Education Center, Richmond Foot and Ankle Clinic, Kids Ultimate Bash, Essence of Motown Writers Network, ChristianPR, Clay Bridges Publishing, Baby Star Productions, Pen of the Writer, C’gifts & Books, Dayton Metro Library, Dayton Conventions and Visitors Bureau, WDTN TV 2, Walking in Victory (DATV), Keeping It Real with Ron Moreland (DATV), Dayton Weekly, Praise Reporter, WCSU 88.9 FM, WFCJ 93.7 FM and WROU 92.1 FM.
